Following the conclusion of the 13th National Parliament Election in Bangladesh, several foreign governments and leaders extended congratulations to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its Chairman, Tarique Rahman, recognizing the party’s historic landslide victory.
The United States congratulated the people of Bangladesh on a successful election and Tarique Rahman on the BNP’s historic win. In an official Facebook post, the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka stated that it looked forward to working with Rahman to realize shared goals of prosperity and security for both nations.
The United Kingdom also sent congratulations to Tarique Rahman and the BNP. The British High Commission, Dhaka noted that it anticipated collaborating with the new government on priorities including economic growth, migration, climate action, and security cooperation, reflecting the UK’s ongoing engagement as a close development and strategic partner.
The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the smooth and successful conduct of the parliamentary election and praised the BNP for taking the lead. The embassy expressed readiness to work with the new government and “write new chapters of China-Bangladesh relations.”
Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, spoke directly with Tarique Rahman, offering congratulations on the party’s remarkable victory. On his X account, Modi conveyed best wishes and support for fulfilling the aspirations of the Bangladeshi people and reaffirmed India’s commitment to the peace, progress and prosperity of both nations.
Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, extended warm congratulations to Tarique Rahman on leading the BNP to a decisive win. Sharif also congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the successful elections and expressed his intent to work with the new government to strengthen historic and multifaceted bilateral relations, advancing shared goals of peace, stability and development in South Asia and beyond.
Sushila Karki, Prime Minister of Nepal, congratulated Tarique Rahman on the BNP’s victory and offered warm congratulations to the Bangladeshi government and people on the successful elections. She expressed readiness to work closely with the new leadership to strengthen neighborly ties and consolidate cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia also congratulated Tarique Rahman and the BNP on their emphatic victory, describing the outcome as a triumph of democracy. In a Facebook post, Anwar noted that the Bangladeshi people had delivered a clear mandate at the ballot box despite facing extraordinary challenges.
Anwar also expressed appreciation for Dr Muhammad Yunus’ role as Chief Adviser in ensuring a smooth democratic transition. He affirmed Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening engagement with the new Bangladeshi administration, saying the country looks forward to working with the leadership to bring renewed energy to bilateral ties and extended warm regards to the people of Bangladesh.
